Dedicated Hosting in the USA
Sometimes, website administrators do not understand the difference between shared and dedicated hosting in the USA. People often see shared hosting is much cheaper, and they think that must be better. For some purposes, shared hosting is better. Generally speaking, a small operation like a personal homepage, a small group hobby site, should all easily fit onto our shared hosting plan. If you are planning on having a major website that will transfer lots of data very quickly, and/or you are going to be hosting an application online with many users, these can take up significant resources. While our dedicated server plans and shared hosting plans both offer lots of bandwidth and storage, the key difference is that shared hosting has very limited hardware resources compared to dedicated hosting.
A dedicated server is also excellent if you're looking for consistent performance. While we pride ourselves on providing excellent service all around, shared hosting has many customers on it, and a malicious or inconsiderate customer may cause issues on the server before we get to mitigate the situation. With your own dedicated server, nobody else can write files to it, so you do not need to worry about other users incidentally causing outages for your site. If you have a large business that significantly affects your livelihood, then this option might be for you.
Another big reason people choose dedicated servers is because of how customizable they are. If you are into Information Technology or will be having an expert configure your server for a specific purpose, you may want a specific operating system (OS) installed on the server. Many server applications require specific versions of an OS to function correctly. On a shared hosting server, this is not possible. You should note, though, that with great power comes great responsibility! If you do not care for your server properly, hackers may be able to find a backdoor into it. While we will do what we can to stop it, this option is not recommended for inexperienced users who do not have support.
Finally, let's round up our plans. We have our aptly named Gorilla plan. As our highest powered plan, this one packs a punch with a TWELVE core 2.1 GHz processor. Yes, you read that correctly. TWELVE cores! This massive machine can tackle any task you send it, also with about 2TB of actual storage! On the middle end, we have the Mandril package, with about 1TB actual storage. This one has 6 cores and 8GB of lightning fast DDR3 RAM, while the Gorilla has double that. If you are not a power user of resources, maybe the Baboon package is right for you. This one just has 4GB of DDR3 RAM with 500GB HDD storage.
You also need to look at how much data you need to transfer. Our highest powered plan begins with 12TB bandwidth, and each next plan steps down 1TB (Mandril = 11TB, Baboon = 10TB). You should take all of these factors into consideration when you decide which dedicated server plan is right for your needs! Especially if your visitors will be mostly from America (whether North, Central, or South), you can't go wrong!
